About the Author
Barnes (Barney) W. McCormick is the Boeing Professor Emeritus at the Pennsylvania State University. He has a long history with the university, receiving his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering. He returned to Penn State in 1959 and, in 1969, was named head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering. Later, he accepted a distinguished professorship as the Boeing Professor of Aerospace Engineering. In 1985, Dr. McCormick ventured into the corporate world, becoming Chief of Aerodynamics for Vertol (now Boeing Helicopters). He has served as consultant to many legal firms as well as industrial and government organizations, including a position as scientific consultant to the U.S. House of Representatives. Dr. McCormick served as Associate Editor for AIAA's Journal of Aircraft, and is an AIAA Fellow. In 1976, he was awarded the AIAA Educational Achievement Award for his innovative contributions to aerospace engineering education.

In 1922 an Irish-American adventurer named Robert Flaherty made a film about Inuit life in the Arctic. Nanook of the North featured a mythical Eskimo hunter who lived in an igloo with his family in a frozen Eden. Nanook’s story captured the world’s imagination.

Thirty years later, the Canadian government forcibly relocated three dozen Inuit from the east coast of Hudson Bay to a region of the high artic that was 1,200 miles farther north. Hailing from a land rich in caribou and arctic foxes, whales and seals, pink saxifrage and heather, the Inuit’s destination was Ellesmere Island, an arid and desolate landscape of shale and ice virtually devoid of life. The most northerly landmass on the planet, Ellesmere is blanketed in darkness for four months of the year. There the exiles were left to live on their own with little government support and few provisions.

Among this group was Josephie Flaherty, the unrecognized, half-Inuit son of Robert Flaherty, who never met his father. In this riveting tale of Canadian bureaucracy and cultural arrogance, British journalist McGrath (Motel Nirvana) tells how in 1953 a handful of Inuit families were coerced from Hudson Bay's eastern shore and relocated 1,500 miles north to bitterly rocky and icy Ellesmere Island—the world's ninth-largest island. Sold as a humane attempt to provide a livelihood for the Inuit when fox pelt prices plummeted, the scheme was, in fact, callously political. Canada wanted to plant the flag—and some people—on the uninhabited and largely impenetrable island, over which Greenland, Denmark and the United States had territorial aspirations, particularly as the Cold War intensified. Disappearance of first nation people: the Inuits in Canada.

This is a riveting account of the oppression, mistreatment, and near annihilation of the Inuit forced to live in the Northern Artic regions most recently in the 1950s forward. What the book makes clear is that this pattern of taking over aboriginal people is long and truly harsh. Ross Gibson, who was put in charge of the forced movement to the uninhabitable Ellesmore and other "islands" was not aware, but the history of forcing Inuit people from their homeland began in 1576 with Martin Frobisher, Captain of the Gabriel, whose men tried to lure the natives on board, then took one prisoner all the way back to England, where his gravesites still remains.
There was no informed consent; the Inuits were told they were going to a better place, where they would have free reign, land of their own, rich hunting and fishing. What they gave up were their minimal government payments, simple medical assessment, occasional handouts of food. One of the gravest dangers when the while "colonists" explored other nations is the sharing of viruses: untreated tuberculosis, measles, unattended births - no one was trained to help deliver babies who were never warm enough and who rarely had protein, which they needed to survive.
The conference meant to symbolize apology from the Canadian government, which took place in 1993, found only a handful of survivors in attendance. Some spoke angrily of their losses; others sat listening to more promises, which have never been fulfilled. I have read this type of story before and yet, this account of the Inuit exile is most heart-breaking.

Riveting and heartbreaking all at once.

This is a fascinating and heart-breaking story of how the Canadian government moved a group of Inuit out of their homeland to a place in the farthest reaches of human tolerance for cold, darkness, and starvation. It's a revealing look down the long tunnel of greed as the Canadian government move the Inuit so they can take over their lands and harvest the fur-bearing animals there. The story reminded me that in such a climate a small problem can become a catastrophic one. Example: Often when husbands are gone hunting or trapping, nursing mothers must go foraging for wood and food. If the men are gone for weeks at a time, these supplies run out and Mom and baby can die of starvation and hypothermia. The book also reminded me that we have seen this story before within our own borders. Who knew the Canadian Government was just as arrogant and greedy as that in the U.S.?

The story takes care not to beg the issues of the Inuit; evenso, the reader still finds him/herself caring about the Inuit and their mistreatment at the hands of people whose primary motivation is money. It follows a real family through four generations. Yes it's the same old story of what happens to indigenous people on every continent, every island and in even the most cold and remote corners of the world. It led me to wonder, why is this story always the same? Why do the aborigines always get the shaft? And since I am one, the answer stings. This book looks at all the players, and all the pressures that nearly wiped out the indigenious people who lived along the edge of Hudson Bay. There is an ending of hope, however. But I'm not holding my breath.

I would recommend this book if you're interested in this kind of story. It's very well done.

Masterful recounting of a story that needed to be told

The story of the Inuit of Inukjuak and their forcible removal to Ellesmere Island is one of suffering, endurance, and ultimately, vindication and triumph. It is told with compassion and conviction by Melanie McGrath. The reviewers in both Booklist and Publishers Weekly used the word “riveting” to describe this narrative. The Long Exile is a masterful recounting of a story that needed to be told. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

#131 The Case of the Two-Cent Candy

Years ago, I wrote about a retail store in the Palo Alto environs—a good one, which had a box of two-cent candies at the checkout. I subsequently remember that "little" parting gesture of the two-cent candy as a symbol of all that is Excellent at that store. Dozens of people who have attended seminars of mine—from retailers to bankers to plumbing-supply-house owners—have come up to remind me, sometimes 15 or 20 years later, of "the two-cent candy story," and to tell me how it had a sizable impact on how they did business, metaphorically and in fact.

Well, the Two-Cent Candy Phenomenon has struck again—with oomph and in the most unlikely of places.

For years Singapore's "brand" has more or less been Southeast Asia's "place that works." Its legendary operational efficiency in all it does has attracted businesses of all sorts to set up shop there. But as "the rest" in the geographic neighborhood closed the efficiency gap, and China continued to rise-race-soar, Singapore decided a couple of years ago to "rebrand" itself as not only a place that works but also as an exciting, "with it" city. (I was a participant in an early rebranding conference that also featured the likes of the late Anita Roddick, Deepak Chopra, and Infosys founder and superman N. R. Narayana Murthy.)

Singapore's fabled operating efficiency starts, as indeed it should, at ports of entry—the airport being a prime example. From immigration to baggage claim to transportation downtown, the services are unmatched anywhere in the world for speed and efficiency.

Saga . . .

Immigration services in Thailand, three days before a trip to Singapore, were a pain. ("Memorable.") And entering Russia some months ago was hardly a walk in the park, either. To be sure, and especially after 9/11, entry to the United States has not been a process you'd mistake for arriving at Disneyland, nor marked by an attitude that shouted "Welcome, honored guest."

Singapore immigration services, on the other hand:

The entry form was a marvel of simplicity.

The lines were short, very short, with more than adequate staffing.

The process was simple and unobtrusive.

And:

The immigration officer could have easily gotten work at Starbucks; she was all smiles and courtesy.

And:

Yes!

And . . . yes!

There was a little candy jar at each Immigration portal!

The "candy jar message" in a dozen ways:

"Welcome to Singapore, Tom!! We are absolutely beside ourselves with delight that you have decided to come here!"

Wow!

Ask yourself . . . now:

What is my (personal, department, project, restaurant, law firm) "Two-Cent Candy"?

Does every part of the process of working with us/me include two-cent candies?

Do we, as a group, "think two-cent candies"?

Operationalizing: Make "two-centing it" part and parcel of "the way we do business around here." Don't go light on the so-called substance—but do remember that . . . perception is reality . . . and perception is shaped by two-cent candies as much as by that so-called hard substance.

Start: Have your staff collect "two-cent candy stories" for the next two weeks in their routine "life" transactions. Share those stories. Translate into "our world." And implement.

Repeat regularly.

Forever.

(Recession or no recession—you can afford two cents.)

(In fact, it is a particularly Brilliant Idea for a recession—you doubtless don't maximize Two-Cent Opportunities. And what opportunities they are.)

Very helpful and very useful with one caveat...

I've been listening to Tom's "The Little Big Things" and reading along on the Kindle version. Tom likes to zero in on simple ideas that can have a powerful impact on the success of a business (small, medium or large). This is a really healthy approach to helping businesses succeed. Folks like to read, absorb and apply...not spend all kinds of time trying to understand graphs, analyses, and information presented all-too-often intended to impress than to assist. So Tom scores very big points throughout in getting us immediately useable information.

There is one item I strongly disagree with in the book. Tom says:

"I argue here and elsewhere that the *only* effective source of innovation is pissed-off people! Hence, bite your tongue and cherish such misfits!" (the word *only* was in italics presumably for emphasis)

I'm sure some points of innovation come from pissed-off people, and I imagine Tom has considerably more examples of this than I do. But I'm also sure superb innovation has come from those not pissed-off at all. This I've seen with my own eyeballs on quite a few occasions. And sometimes these pissed-off misfits are just that: pissed-off misfits with no innovation whatsoever in their space. Quite the contrary, some are involved with undoing innovation, creativity and productivity. So I'm not on the look-out for pissed-off misfits nor should you be. Be on the look-out for innovation in whatever form it presents itself. Then check it out, test it out and use it liberally when you see it gets the desired results.

538 pages of incoherent rant

I've never seen so many font sizes, exclamation points and redundancy in one book. There is nothing new here, and what IS here is so mercilessly pounded on that you would have to be severely ADHD to get anything out of it. A typical paragraph: "Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate." (I wish I was exaggerating).

I made it to page 85 before swearing I would never read another Tom Peters book as long as I live. The thought of trying to make it through the remaining 453 pages made me want to pull my eyeballs out. The Little Big Things becomes the fourth book I've ever ordered from Amazon that I am returning, and the second this week. Must be a bad week for business books.

You're better off buying a used copy of The Search for Excellence, even though many of the companies featured in that book have been out of business so long that under-40 readers won't have ever heard of them.

Quick and very practical ways to stand out

As I started reading this book, I was disappointed. I didn't like the short, choppy parts. Nor did I like the multiple fonts. The book didn't seem to flow.

Then I thought back on Tom Peters' introduction. He says that this book is written in a blogging style and isn't meant to be read like a regular book. He also says that he doesn't expect all his items to resonate with the reader. He wishes us to pick up a few.

Halfway through the book, I `got it' and started enjoying the lists.

The mark of a true visionary author is if he:

**makes the reader stop and think
**gives practical and very doable advice.

Tom Peters succeeded with both of these.

Some of the "little big things" that I particularly enjoyed:

#36 - Call, don't email, 25-20 people in the next 5 days to thank them for all their help. Make a point to do this a few times a year.
#68 - Just say yes!
#115 - Ask and then ask again.

While there is nothing new or earth shattering in this book, it's a good read to help stimulate actionable ideas.

Large Boxes for Each Day Make This a Good Choice for Family's "Master Calendar"

The ANSEL ADAMS 2017 WALL CALENDAR is the same as the one sold in retail bookstores at year's end, but I like to buy it from Amazon as soon as it is offered (usually in July). That way, I can write in appointments from the upcoming year as soon as they are scheduled. (Each year’s calendar includes a full page for January of the following year, but my advance appointments usually extend beyond January.)

The main reason that I buy this calendar, year after year, is that the extra-large date boxes provide ample space for recording all of my family's medical appointments, upcoming meetings and activities, and other date-related reminders. I always save each used calendar as a quick reference for that entire year's appointments and activities.

When hanging up, open to a full month, the calendar measures 15-1/2" wide by 25" long. The monthly photo and calendar pages each measure 15-1/2" wide by 12-1/2" long.

Each month's calendar page includes a mini-calendar for last month and next month, and indicates holidays, moon phases, and important items like daylight savings time changes. The black and white photographs by Ansel Adams are beautiful, and every year's selection is different.

So, I got this product after seeing it in a GenCon add and figured why not. I own soem of the other Kobold Guides to World Building and etc so I knew the style of a bunch of different artciles from different people. At first I was just going to go to the artciles that interested me most but then I just fell into reading each one from front to back, SO WELL DONE! The book tackles playing Evil Characters, how to put weirdness in your games (Think Horror or Lovecraft Weird), Complex plotting, Doing cliffhangers, and much more. The advice each person gives is super solid and really can fit into any type of RPG game that you would want to run (not just Heroic Fantasy).

Wouldn't it be great if you could sit down and pick the brain ...

Wouldn't it be great if you could sit down and pick the brain of some truly great and experienced GMs and game designers and learn how to improve your own GM sessions, whether you're doing prepared modules or homebrewed designs? Well, essentially, that's what you get with this Kobold Guide. Like others in the series, it's collection of essays that cover various topics. The downside to this format is that not everything will be related to what you're interested in. For instance, I ended up highlighting probably half of Kevin Kulp's "Oral Tradition" essay given how many useful tidbits it provided, while other essays weren't nearly as useful. Still, I suspect there's more than enough in this book to make it worth it for GMs of all levels of experience, and the advice is going to apply to any rule system that you happen to play.

Must-read for any manager or new employee

This is a really useful book filled with sage advice for anyone assuming a leadership position, particularly as a former outsider to the organization. It's filled with reminders that you don't walk in with "the answer," that instead winning the trust and respect of your cohorts is a learning process that you should begin with great intensity. The first half of the book relates directly to someone who is assuming a management role, the next quarter of the book is about what to do as a new employee serving under a boss or bosses (perhaps as a mid-level manager). The last bit of the book gives a brief introduction to strategic thinking and the book concludes with questions to ask yourself (and your family) in evaluating your transition. It is applicable to any firm, church, non-profit, and even (mostly) the government.

Here's a summary of the points I gleaned:
- Establish your integrity in first 30 days.
- Learn all you can about the organization, put on your "historian" hat.
- Don't suggest changes without examining what has been done previously.
- Silence is not accession.
- Meet with everyone in the organization to evaluate their expectations. Ask them what they think you should focus on.
- Ask same questions of all so no one treated different and you have a cross-section.
- Look for "early wins," low-hanging fruit of improvements you can make or other things to boost morale.

Dealing with your boss in the first 30 days:
- Be proactive, assume it's on your shoulders to build the relationship and get the support you need.
- Schedule meetings to discuss expectations, evaluations, and personal development.
- Figure out what would give your boss "early wins." Make his priorities your priorities.
- Be proactive in doing things that will allow your boss to hear from people he trusts that you're a good worker.
- Don't bring your boss bad news early, at least without bringing good news too.
- Don't assume he will change. He has a style, foibles, accept them and work around then and move on. You can learn a lot from a bad boss, and you will likely have many.
- Examine how others relate to your boss and how he responds.

Strategy
- Begin figuring out who you need to move off your team immediately, whose roles need to change, and who you need to evaluate further.
- Think strategically. After your first 90 days you should be able to present a plan that is actionable.
- Evaluate the vision of the organization, its values, and use SWOT analysis.

Ask yourself feedback questions every week.
- What isn't going well. Why? What can you change?
- What are you least happy about. What can you change about it?
- What meeting troubled you the most? ""
- What conflict needs to be most resolved? ""

Family also has to be considered. How is your new role and time commitment affecting your family? Was the move worth it?

The author doesn't state it like this, but focus on doing what's best next.

I give this book 4.5 stars out of 5. I highly recommend it.

Very useful tool for transitioning to a new job

First shared with me by my new boss, I quickly realized the approach and framework were going to be very useful and purchased my own anniversary copy. I'm 6 weeks into my transition as a senior executive at a new org and I'm finding the process very helpful. From the time you accept your position to crafting a 30-60-90 day plan I highly recommend for all transitioning executives and new managers.

Generally good advice; wish some of it was more practical

I liked the focus on the first 90 days in a new managerial role: tips for building credibility quickly, and tips for embarking on fixing what needs fixing while preserving what needs preserving. I liked the idea of breaking the first 90 days into 30-day chunks, with subplans for each stage. I liked the STaRS model as a way to characterize the situation: Startups where the whole group is creating something new; Turnarounds where you've got a fixer-upper and they know it; Realignments where they need some course corrections but not everyone knows or agrees; and Sustaining success where they're doing well and need to maintain it and grow. It was a useful model for comparing the likely challenges, opportunities, and areas of focus. I liked the insight that the STaRS model can apply at multiple levels: from a single project to a divisional unit to the whole company.

One aspect of the STaRS model struck me as needing elaboration. Different STaRS situations were, in part, characterized by whether the people involved agreed on how well things were going and what direction to take. That seemed unrealistically oversimplified. There'll often be people who are on board and those who aren't. The question is who. Maybe senior management has a consensus, but your staff doesn't. Maybe your staff has a consenus, but it's not the same as management's, and then your key customers have yet another view. Sometimes you've got overall consensus in one group or another, but one or two key people within the group see the situation differently. With each of the four situations in the STaRS model, it should be important to know where you have agreement on status and directions, and where you don't.

The book had its weak spots. Sometimes, the advice was overly simplistic, to the point that it felt like padding. I should set realistic goals? I should ask good questions? No kidding, really? I wouldn't think that anyone in a new managerial role would consciously plan to set bad goals and ask bad questions. (Their goals and questions might turn out to be bad, but they didn't go into the situation wanting to do the job poorly.) Also, the author's advice sometimes strayed quite far from business. Talk to me about the different challenges facing startups and turnarounds, sure, but I don't think he's qualified to tell me how to maintain a work-life balance (Chapter 9).

I had hoped the checklists at the end of each chapter would offer practical steps toward creating and implementing a 90-day plan, including good tips on when to do various things. Instead, the checklist items were rather nebulous and non-directive. The "checklist" label was a misnomer, compared to what I normally expect from a checklist. With each new chapter, I spent less and less time reading the checklist.

The anecdotes that started each chapter didn't do anything for me. Every one of them fell into one of two forms: a) Jane Doe succeeded by doing what I'm about to tell you to do, or b) Jane Doe failed by not doing what I'm about to tell you to do. They felt like simplistic self-justification, not insightful explorations of the advice being offered.

I would have liked some summary comparisons, for later reference and reminder, of the different STaRS situations, and a summary structure for the elements of the 90-day plan. This is all stuff that was strewn throughout the book, but some reference summaries would have been helpful.

All in all, though, there was good advice in the book, especially in comparing different aspects of the STaRS model. The book is suitable for anyone in a new leadership role. I don't see why some people are saying this is for senior leadership only. A new front-line supervisor could benefit from a 90-day plan too.

The Kindle version worked pretty well. I saw that some older reviews of the Kindle version complained about badly formatted tables and so on. That appears to have been resolved. The tables and figures are intact. However, you can't resize them and they don't use your chosen text size, so you might find them hard to read. The table of contents was pretty good, covering the chapters and the front and end matter, but not the subsections within chapters.

Shocking, revolutionary

This book sounds like the typical self-aggrandizing theories that liberals come up with to "explain" why they're so much smarter than conservatives... or does it? Anonymous Conservative's theory has reams of scientific studies backing it, most notably the countless studies showing that liberals and conservatives have significantly different brain structures. Evolutionary Psychology is a must-read for the simple fact that there's nothing out there quite like it.

For starters, the book's tone is surprisingly even-handed and polite. Despite Anonymous Conservative's (obvious) political bias, he reports his findings and speculations in a clinical, scientific tone. This goes wonders towards convincing the reader of the correctness--or at least plausibility--of his theory. The battalion of sources and footnotes buttressing his argument also helps. Despite this, Anonymous Conservative doesn't lard up the text with overly-complex terminology or obscure terms; his writing is clean enough to convey his ideas in one shot.

The other reason why you need to read Evolutionary Psychology is because its central thesis is the most accurate and plausible explanation for our current state of affairs that you'll ever find.

The gist of Evolutionary Psychology is that liberalism and conservatism are outgrowths of two types of evolutionary strategies in humans, K-selection and r-selection. K-selection breeds children to compete (and win) in a hostile world with scarce resources through a high-investment, two-parent upbringing, late sexual maturation (and monogamy), sexual dimorphism, and loyalty to the in-group. r-selection breeds children for a world with abundant resources through a low-investment, single-mother upbringing, early sexual maturation (and promiscuity), androgyny, and no in-group loyalty. Think of wolves (K-selected), who are tight-knit, loyal, brave and sexually restrained, versus rabbits (r-selected), who have sex with wild abandon, ignore their fellows when they get eaten, and run away from danger instead of facing it. Or, for a human example, compare a white middle-class family from the suburbs to a black welfare queen in the inner city with five kids from four different daddies.

Going by Evolutionary Psychology, the political conflict in America--and the West at large--is a struggle between K-selected and r-selected humans trying to maximize their reproductive potential. K-selected people believe in sexual restraint and individual competition to propagate their genes, hence the conservative predilection for laissez-faire economics, gun ownership, chastity and other social policies that allow men and women to rise on their own merits. r-selected people want an environment where life is easy and resources are freely available, hence the liberal love of welfare, gun control, and a government with maximum control over peoples' lives. You could say that leftists stand for "sexual freedom," but sexual freedom is an oxymoron; absent government subsidies and laws, women have no choice but to behave monogamously (see: Sandra Fluke crying about how taxpayers have to foot the bill for her birth control). The problem for the r-selected Rabbit People is that we don't have unlimited resources.

Thus we see the cycle of history, from Rome to Victorian Britain to the present-day U.S. K-selected pioneers carve out a civilization from chaos, and increased prosperity eventually allows r-selected parasites to gain a foothold. At a certain point, the Rabbit People seize control and alter the culture to make resources freely available and tamp down the wolves' ability to compete and produce. Eventually the ratio of r-selected parasites to K-selected producers gets too large and everything collapses, and the whole process begins again.

Evolutionary Psychology also makes sense out of many other aspects of our political climate. Ever wonder why leftist/feminist women are strident and butch while leftist men are timid and effete? Or why American women in general are more butch and obnoxious then, say, Asian or eastern European women? r-selection, for all its love of indiscriminate sex, works to eliminate differences between the sexes. Since women in r-selected environments like sub-Saharan Africa are left to support their children alone, they develop more masculine characteristics, while men become more effeminate due to their competitive/provider abilities being largely irrelevant in the mating process.

Additionally, Evolutionary Psychology also explains why leftists are at best lukewarm about their country, and at worst treasonous. Since Rabbit People know they can't best wolves in a fair competition--imagine a village of North Dakotan men going up against a gaggle of Portland hipsters--they survive by playing different groups of wolves against each other. The immigration debate is a great example of this; leftist whites are using K-selected foreigners as a way to weaken conservative, K-selected whites in a big game of "Let's You and Him Fight."

The Zimmerman debacle is another great example of why Rabbit People have to constantly keep wolves fighting each other. George Zimmerman is a K-selected wolf, a man who by all rights is a model citizen, tirelessly working to make his community a better place. Trayvon Martin was an r-selected rabbit, a coward who beat and robbed people and sought to game society for his own benefit. In a fight, when all else is equal, the wolf will always roll over the rabbit (and will usually be justified in doing so), so our rabbity overlords tried to use another group of wolves--the police and justice system--to roll Zimmerman.

There is nothing a rabbit fears more than a wolf who can take care of himself, who doesn't need them.

What really makes Evolutionary Psychology valuable reading--and what ultimately convinced me that Anonymous Conservative was right--is the book's analysis of amygdala function. The book points to numerous studies showing that liberals have atrophied amygdalae compared to conservatives. The amygdala is the section of the brain responsible for gauging the emotional significance of perceptions, and repeated studies have shown that animals with damaged amygdalae behave like they're completely insane. The effete, pacifistic nature of the left; their obsession with "non-judgmentalism" and opposition to stereotypes and generalizations; their lack of impulse control and justification for it (fat acceptance, anyone?); it's all a form of brain damage. And it's brain damage that only gets worse: as successive generations are even more affluent and mollycoddled, they become increasingly incapable of behaving like normal, rational people. Hence our current epidemic of 16-year old girls on Tumblr forming hysterical lynch mobs whenever anyone makes a rape joke and feminists attaching "trigger warnings" to every article that isn't about cute fluffy kittens.

This is all a massive oversimplication of Anonymous Conservative's ideas; for the full flavor, you need to read the book.

There are two flaws with Evolutionary Psychology. The first is that Anonymous Conservative glosses over the significant role that climate plays in r/K selection. The colder a climate is, the greater it tends towards K-selection, because winter has a habit of killing off those who don't prepare for it. It's no accident that the most r-selected peoples on Earth are clustered around the equator in places like sub-Saharan Africa, where the weather is relatively pleasant and forgiving. You can even see this play out on a micro level; the states with the highest rates of teenage pregnancy are southern ones like Texas, Arizona and California. Moynihan's Law of the Canadian Border would seem to apply here.

The other problem with Evolutionary Psychology is that Anonymous Conservative seems blind to the traitorous, r-selected nature of modern conservatism. He correctly analyzes Nazism as a fusion of r- and K-selected ideologues, with r-selected opportunists like Hitler using K-selected German nationalists to seize power, but he ignores that post-Reagan conservatism is effectively doing the same thing. Reaganite reforms of downsizing, outsourcing and union smashing have done nothing but harm the average American and benefit corporations. Additionally, the majority of corporations are run by leftists (Microsoft, Facebook, Google etc.) or "conservatives"/libertarians who are openly hostile to America's interests (Rupert Murdoch, the Koch brothers).

But given the sheer groundbreaking nature of this work, these dings are minor. The Evolutionary Psychology Behind Politics is one of the most important books of our time, and one you absolutely must buy. Even if you have an instinctive distrust of works like this (I know I did), Anonymous Conservative's are so well articulated and supported that they're worthy of a hearing. Plus, the fact that leftists go frothing-at-the-mouth insane when presented with his ideas (just look at the bogus one-star reviews already posted here) is a big point in his favor.

This is the equivalent of a Literary Nuclear Device that has already gone off.....

The synopsis of this work is that inherent traits in Human Beings linked to procreation are subconsciously driving our perception of the World including politically.
The Author splits Human Nature into two categories : the Competition Adverse r's & the Highly Competitive K's
and defines 5 Traits each clearly support or refute
1. COMPETITION (K's relish Competition, r's avoid it at all cost)
2.PROMISCUITY (K's want strong monogamous relationships r's will couple with anything with a heartbeat)
3.PARENTING (K's have few High Value children r's have many children i.e. quantity over quality)
4.SEXUALIZATION (K's want kids to grow up & mature fully before Sex, r's want kids sexually active ASAP)
5.GROUP LOYALTY (K's find in-group vs out-group natural & beneficial r's find this scary & insane)

As a student of Ancient History (Rome, Greece & Egypt) I felt the ground shaking beneath my feet as the Actions, Eras, Wars & Events I thought I knew shifting & sliding into a new-found clarity & focus
