Starting a food truck Iv read all the books and this one was full of good working thoughts and considerations. I recommend joining a food truck group in your city just about all of them have one even here in Oklahoma City the OKC food truck association is a great way to go beyond the book and find out what permits and check lists you have to follow for your area. As long as your not the same type of food truck you'll find others will be more than happy to help and guide you. These books will help you build the plan but you need a working local knowledge in order to not violate a law. Just in my city I needed a LLC, a Inspection by the city health department, a permit by the health department, a site permit every time I park on private property, a annual permit I have to buy every year to go to special events, and a site inspection permit every time I park at a public event. A great guide to getting into the business

I read through the book quickly, since it is uncomplicated and presents the basic concepts in a clear and distinct way. For anyone who is thinking about starting a food truck business or is simply interested in what everyone is talking about, this is the book to buy. The author hits on the big picture "policy" issues and delves into the nitty gritty that you would never know unless you had been on the streets running a truck for years. Since he's in NYC, where operating a business can be the most difficult, it's good to get an almost 'worst case' scenario. The section on regulations was helpful, since the author shows the different requirements and issues faced in different cities. I liked the commentaries from other truck operators; a good way to bring in different viewpoints.

Excellent tips on starting a food truck and has referrals to insurance and other reference points.

Well done manual, much more informative than Food Trucks for Dummies, which was sorely lacking.

Very interesting book on anatomy and evolution

I read page after page. I was at the last page when I recongnized.

This book is a cream of crops which came out from years of dedicated work by an outstanding researcher and educator of anatomy and evolution.

There are many traditional anatomy books which explain structure but sometimes readers were not satisfied with questions not explained by the books. Dr. Langdon faithfully applied sciences related with human evolution and explains human body structure and function from the unique perspectives of evolution.

If combined with traditional clinical purpose anatomy books, you will have very clear and precise understanding of anatomy.

I had the benefit of being one of Dr. Langdon's students many years ago.

The depth of his understanding of anatomy is difficult to fathom.

He never used a single note to guide his teachings. He didn't need them. He was capable of drawing any structure throughout its evolutionary development from memory.

The title of my review says it all: first rate. This book honors anatomy and evolutionary biology on every page. Nothing makes sense in biology, we are reminded, without evolution, and the author never loses sight of that truth.

Through extensive and expensive research, Lindstrom provides an adequate primer on what neuroscience studies can tell society—particularly marketers—about how selling (and more important, buying) works. Whether considering the roles of sex, religion, product placement or contradictions in consumer habits between what they say and what they do, Lindstrom explores how brain-scan studies reveal an avalanche of information about what works and what doesn't. Though the information is intriguing, Lindstrom's disregard for the potential abuses of such information (such as marketers purposely manipulating people to buy products that are harmful, of which there is a proven track record) makes his enthusiasm suspect. Don Leslie provides a good voice for nonfiction material, using a congenial tone with good emphasis to keep the listeners engaged. Infomercial?

This book has a very interesting premise - using MRI to examine, not cognition, memory, or emotion, but advertising. And some of the results are rather interesting. For example:

- Negative messages (anti-smoking ads, say) can activate desires just as easily as positive ones.
- Strong brands can activate the same brain centers as do religious topics.
- Indirect advertising (the coke glasses sitting in front of the American Idol judges) can be more effective than direct advertising.

Probably the biggest takeaway is that what people say and how they really feel are not the same. Actually, having written all this out, I'm not sure that these results really are all that unexpected and interesting after all. ;^)

My biggest beef with the book is how thin it is beyond the basic reporting of results. Yes, it actually is over 200 pages (just barely), but there is an awful lot of padding in there. Part of that is going over some very basic ideas (subliminal advertising, e.g.) ad infinitum, but also being extremely anecdotal. I like anecdotes, and feel they make for a great read, but the author really goes overboard - especially when it comes to anecdotes about himself.

In fact, the author's ego really gets in the way here. Here are some samples:

"But this study wasn't going to come cheap, and I knew that without corporate backing, it was dead in the water. But when I get an idea in my head that keeps me up at night, I'm persistent. Politely pushy, you might call it. Those twenty-seven messages on your answering machine. They're all from me (sorry)."

and

"By way of profession, I'm a global branding expert. That is, it's been a lifelong mission (and passion) to figure out how consumers think ... If you look around, chances are you'll find my branding fingerprints all over your house or apartment ... As a branding expert and brand futurist (meaning that the sum of my globe-hopping experience gives me a helicopter view of probable future consumer and advertising trends) ..."

and

"I've been told more times than I can count that my appearance is as unconventional as what I do for a living ... My features [he has a baby face], my raked-back blond hair, and my habit of wearing all black give a lot of people the impression that I'm some kind of quirky child evangelist, or maybe some precocious, slightly wired high-school student who got lost on the way to the science lab and ended up in a corporate boardroom by mistake. I've gotten used to it over the years. I suppose you could say it has evolved into my brand."

Overall, the tone of the book is more one of simply trying to drive business (including a URL to his site in the book's last sentence) than actually reporting anything seriously. A little sad, given the premise and all the hype and expectation the author tries to generate.

This also brings up the issue of ethics, which the author barely touches on. Apart from the issue of the book being basically a long infomercial, I also wondered about the intrusiveness and manipulation that would be inherent in applying some of the findings. It really only gets an oops-almost-forgot two sentences at the end of the book:

"Because that is a world in which we, the consumers, can escape all the tricks and traps that companies use to seduce us to their products and get us to buy and take back our rational minds. And I hope that by writing Buyology, this is the world I have helped bring about."

A much better read would be Click: What Millions of People Are Doing Online and Why it Matters - same large topic, but much more interesting, informative - and modest.

Should have been a 3 page magazine article

This book was 50% review of other brands and ad campaigns, 30% bragging about how cool the "experiments" were, 10% new data that was only semi compelling, and 10% telling you what they just told you.

If they really stretched it, this should have been a 3 page article in a reader's digest. Maybe a 1,000 word article in the WSJ.

The most interesting thing I learned was about "mirror neurons" and how our brains imagine, e.g., eating an apple when only watching someone else do it. But that is not enough for a whole book. There were other tidbits but not worth the $ or effort to learn them.

I bought this book on tape along with "Tribes" by Godin. Audible is giving that one away for free. I would have paid $20 for Tribes and nothing for Buyology. It's almost as if the author of Buyology said "well since I have spent all this money for research I guess I should write a book."

5 minutes of clear thinking will answer every question you might have thought this book would answer.

This is the first book in a long time I felt like taking back, and demanding a refund.

Filled with common-sense observations inflated with info-mercial style prose, it's a shadow of the scientific study it claims to be.

Each chapter pounds you with juvenile "imagine this!" scenarios, while providing little scientific backing for the author's conclusions. After each disappointing narrative, he promises the next chapter has "groundbreaking new science!" Clearly, he has mastered the art of hype, for that's mostly what this book is.

Those looking for information on motivation and thinking patterns will be best served to look elsewhere.

What a great read. I must admit

What a great read. I must admit, I was a little skeptical when I first seen this. I though it was going to be one of those books where the author is doing nothing more then trying to sell some other course or something, without really sharing any good information. Boy was I wrong, This little book is filled with detailed information about how to set up your real estate business using virtual assistants. Brittne Calloway really pulls back the curtain and shows you exactly how she's been so successful in such a short period of time.

Thank you Brittney Information I learned from this one book I'm sure will make a huge impact on my real estate investing business..

Clear & Concise Guide Full of Actionable Tasks - Minus the typical "Guru" Fluff!

I had the pleasure of attending a live workshop yesterday where Brittney spoke about how she was able to scale her real estate business in a ridiculously short amount of time. I picked up one of her books before leaving and said to myself, "I'll read a couple of chapters when I get home tonight." Well..... Once I opened up the book, I did NOT put it down. I actually heard Pringles jingle in my head as I watched rays of sunlight begin to peak through my window while finishing up the last few pages this morning. From cover-to-cover, this book is FULL of ACTIONABLE, MEASURABLE tasks that one could immediately implement to help expand and begin to FULLY automate their real estate business. I'm sure that a few of the tasks she shared have heard before by investors, but having them together all in one place makes it extremely easy for anyone to hit the ground running. It's not a huge book, but what it lacks in length, it definitely makes up in QUALITY.

The REI Automation Blueprint is written in such a way that it offers a HUGE amount of help to newbie investors, while still providing quite a few tips for seasoned investors as well. It's clear that Brittney poured her heart and desire of helping other investors succeed into this book. It's also written in a very simplistic, non "GURU," down-to-earth manner that makes you feel like a she's a close friend who is genuinely trying to help you make a series of small, calculated, yet necessary tweaks in your business to help you achieve MASSIVE SUCCESS. Brittney is extremely transparent in explaining how she was able to rapidly expand her real estate business and does not hold back in sharing countless ways for others to do the same. There were many times while reading the book, I found myself thinking about how I could easily apply the information to other areas of business as well.

One area that I could really relate to is when she discussed NOT being a MORNING PERSON.... Anyone one who knows me knows that (historically) me and mornings just don't get along. But I could clearly see how working towards becoming a morning person could benefit both myself and my business after reading this section. I also loved how she shared her morning routine (and the importance of keeping your morning routine). She also shares her heart of really being FIRST in the business of helping people - regardless of whether or not they would conduct a transaction with her. There were so many things that resonated with me in this book.

Another thing I really loved about the book was that she wasn't "pitching" her course on every other page (as some people do). Yes, she does have a course that she offers, but she only mentions it ONE TIME, and it's at the very end of the book. I'll definitely be implementing the things recommend in the REI Automation Blueprint and I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for ideas of different ways to expand and automate their real estate business.

I bought this book several months ago and I was amazed at how straight and to the point this book is. Brittney lays out step by step from beginning to end what you should do in order to automate your REI business. I implemented the tools, resources, and strategies as I read them and I am having good results with my virtual assistant. I work two jobs 6 days a week 13hrs a day so doing all the cold calling, emailing, social media, and negotiating was overwhelming. I needed a virtual assistant to help me with every aspect of my business. After hiring my virtual assistant, I noticed an increase in production with my business which ultimately lead to me closing my first wholesale deal and making $10K all from applying what I learned in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about taking their real estate business to the next level.

One of the Best Crochet Books!

MANDALAS TO CROCHET: 30 GREAT PATTERNS is one of the best books in my extensive library of crochet books. I learned two techniques from this book--how to join rounds with a needle and how to create a magic ring--and have used them a number of times. The explanations and illustrations in this book are very clear and quite helpful, and the beautiful mandala patterns are inspiring. I do wish that more craft books came with a spiral binding.

The book is very good step by step instructions

I Got this book for my grandma to keep her brain functioning as she is getting older she loves to crochet and is always looking for new patterns. The book is very good step by step instructions, it has amazing color picture, the only downside to it is the packaging need a little of work. It came wrapped in a cardboard not fully cover and while i am pro minimal waist and environment friendly ways i think this might it to be cover in plastic, because when i received it, was pouring rain some of the pages got wet. If i had not notice that the mail man drop by and when to retrieved it, i think it would gotten damaged completely.

What took you so long?

OMG! This is so great - and I haven't even started crocheting! Not just great patterns and ideas and projects - but detailed diagrams and specific "fixes" and troubleshooting when you get those weird ripples and cupping on your round projects.

The only bad thing I have to say about this book is that I am sadly disappointed that it wasn't around 20 years ago when I crocheted that huge rag rug that never did lay flat... *sigh*

Interesting, although the author explains only part of the history

Well, I read this book after viewing Job's lecture at Stanford […] really fascinating. So I would know what was happening behind the scenes, and what went wrong on the love story of Jobs and Sculley.

The book explains Sculley's East Coast (and Republican) vision of how to manage a big company, which, is, essentially, I may say a "military" way to organize a company, with clear objectives and responsabilities, vs. the West Coast (and Democrat) which is more cooperative and less organized. Of course you cannot manage a multimillion company with the manager deciding on everything, from the profile of the programmers to hire to the marketing budget.

It explains also the big mistake Sculley (and others have done) when trying to emulate the Sosa wars, with IBM-PC vs. Macintosh. A consumer may just pick one Pepsi on the shelves of a supermarket, and test it, and eventually switch brands... An IT Manager simply cannot do that, and its amazing that people as smart as Apple Board of Directors didn't see this. Anyhow, since then Apple has profiled his public and they did not try to compete with PC clones anymore. They aim their sales to a prospective buyer who is not the IT Manager anymore. Probably this is not a decision done by Jobs when returning to Apple.

What the book says is not as important as what the book hides, probably the fact that not all companies are created equal, and there is no such thing as "one size fits all". Probably Sculley was the right man for the job in a certain moment, but sure Apple under his management would have become a "me too" company, as Hewlett-Packard is now. Of course I prefer the panache of DEC trying to convince the world to follow their way - although they did not suceed - to the Compaq-HP deal, manufacturing dull machines with dull O.S.

I read Odyssey because Sculley was considered an expert on marketing. On that topic the text does disappoint the reader; he’s an exceptional person who will teach you techniques, such ideas as “Marketing as Theatre” that we take for granted today.
John Sculley was an executive, who steered Apple Computer through the turbulent waters of the 1980’s who came from Pepsi. Yet, there’s an interesting soap opera in book. John Sculley helped oust Steve Jobs from Apple in the1980’s, but it was Steve Jobs who recruited John Sculley to come to Apple Computer in the first place. Who said computers were boring?

Fascinating view into the Sculley vs. Jobs battle

When the author relates the story of being lured from Pepsi to Apple, and the introduction of the Apple Macintosh, this book is fascinating. When John Sculley inserts sections about management styles, it can bore you to tears; just skip them, nothing noteworthy in the management sections anyhow. It was fun to read this book several years after its publication, with the added depth that passage of time provides. A must-have for those interested in the early history of Apple.

Dual units
